Mind-Body Approach
What is it? Mind-body work, also known as Behavioral Medicine, is an interdisciplinary field that utilizes behavioral health techniques, such as CBT, DBT, hypnosis, mindfulness meditation, relaxation and more. I use these techniques to treat a variety of medical and behavioral conditions. Mind-body interventions can also be applied to the treatment of conditions that are associated with habits and lifestyle, such as insomnia, obesity and smoking.
DECREASE STRESS, ANXIETY, AND DEPRESSION
My focus in this work is mindfulness meditation as a way to decrease stress, anxiety and depression.
Mind-body applications are many :
- Calming the mind and body
- Anxiety disorders (panic, phobias, PTSD, OCD)
- Various habits and lifestyle concerns such as eating disorders, lack of motivation and general health issues.
- Developing a wise mind in making life decisions
- Couples work
- Pain relief
I believe our thoughts affect our experience of life. There is no separation between our mind and our body; as one goes, goes the other. When we are able to, with mindful intention, guide our mind, our body listens and responds.
What I find to be one of the major obstacles to our happiness is our lack of acceptance and intention. We often do not accept that how we think about something affects the outcome. This is not to say that things do not happen that are out of our control; of course there are. What I posit in this approach is that we have a great deal to do with our sense of agency, life outcomes and experience. We are able to enjoy greater health and happiness when we begin to understand the power of our mind to affect change. It is an extremely satisfying process.
